Congratulations! You’ve been accepted to The Experiment! Get ready for the most magical summer of your life.
You can’t wait for school to get out so you can do this.
Let’s check off that packing list. Internal frame backpack… Waterproof shoes… One dressy outfit…
When you got to the airport, you were excited but still really nervous when you saw your group for the first time.
But you shouldn’t have worried, because after about five seconds of talking to them…
One whirlwind flight later, you’re in a new country!
You hit the ground running during Orientation, meeting new people, seeing new places…
You tried some interesting foods that you’ve never seen before.
There were probably some moments where you were thinking this.
Just kidding, you’re an Experimenter, so that means that 99% of the time, your motto was…
You would be sent off in group activities to get a feel for your new community, and then you remember that your group leader was expecting you five minutes ago.
You were also having so much fun you forgot to check in with your parents, at which point they were like…
The Experiment is a great time to learn or practice a foreign language! But this is also a great communication strategy.
But you’ll never forget the first time you used your target language to connect with a local.
You become so tight with your new friends that you’re on a whole different level of understanding.
Oh, and this is every group picture ever.
It’s time for homestays! This was you when you met your host mom.
And this was you when you had to leave her.
Every single day when you realize that you’re living internationally…
Wait… It’s the end of the program already?!
You try to figure out how to take the entire country home with you.
It’s the end of The Experiment and your group heads to the airport. This is how your goodbyes go down.
Being home is nice for a while but then you start feeling re-entry shock.
And you go back to your regular routine but every time you think about your friends and your summer…
You realize that you grew so much and that you’re not the same person you were a month ago.
One thing’s for certain, though. You’re sure of this more than anything.
So what are you waiting for? What will you do next?
